KAS’s 2024 Scholarship program is now closed. Come back next year!

The Kitsap Audubon Society is dedicated to environmental education, nature study, the preservation of wildlife and habitat, and the enjoyment and appreciation of our natural areas.

To that end, we believe in supporting those students in our community that are working towards an academic degree in a field related to Kitsap Audubon’s mission, such as environmental science, forestry, marine or wildlife biology. 

Since 2006 KAS has awarded $95,500 in Scholarships.

In 2023, scholarships were awarded to the following young students:

Ann Sleight Memorial Scholarship- $3,000 each

  • Claire Moe, Kingston, WA, is enrolled at Colorado College, Colorado Springs, CO. Her major is evironmental science/climate change. Claire received a previous $1,000 Kitsap Audubon scholarship in 2022 as a graduating high school senior.

  • Evan Gray, Bainbridge Island, WA, is enrolled at the University of Washington, Seattle, and has a double major in environmental science and photo media. Evan received a previous $1,000 Kitsap Audubon scholarship in 2022 as a graduating high school senior.

  • Marlowe Lawson, Port Orchard, WA, is enrolled at Western Washington University, Bellingham. Her major is energy policy/management and conservation.

  • KAS General Scholarship- $1,000 each

  • Julia Beatty, Poulsbo, WA, is a graduating senior at North Kitsap High School who is planning to study zoology at Oregon State University.

KAS’s General Scholarship - closed for 2024

Kitsap Audubon Society will offer up to six (6) scholarships to graduating high school seniors from Kitsap County who wish to pursue a 2- or 4-year degree in Environmental Studies, Forestry, Marine or Wildlife Biology, or related fields of study.  Selection will be based on quality of application responses, academic history, letters of recommendation, and evidence of interest in the chosen field through related projects and activities.

Award Amount: An award of $1,000 each will be granted to up to six students for tuition, books, and fees.  Funds will be sent directly to the school of attendance by early September and applied to the student’s account.

Eligibility Requirements: To be considered for a scholarship, an applicant must:

  • Be a resident of Kitsap County

  • Be a high school senior graduating from a Kitsap County high school in 2024.

  • Show good academic standing.

  • Show qualities of character and citizenship.

  • List projects or activities relating to field of interest.

Application Directions

  1. Complete the online scholarship application form below in its entirety by (Closed for 2024).

  2. Mail the following documentation, postmarked by (closed for 2024) to Kitsap Audubon Society Scholarship Committee P.O. Box 961 Poulsbo, WA 98370:

    1. Official transcript.

    2. Two letters of recommendation from persons qualified to attest to your reliability, scholarship, and capability.

    3. The name and address of the intended college for transmittal of funds

    In the event that an interview is needed, you will be contacted by phone or email.

    Award Presentation: The scholarship committee will contact recipient following selection no later than May 1st. Recipient will be announced and introduced at the May 9th general meeting of the Kitsap Audubon Society (hybrid meeting in person and via Zoom).

KAS’s Ann Sleight Memorial Scholarship- closed for 2024

Kitsap Audubon Society will offer up to three (3) scholarships to residents of Kitsap County who have successfully completed at least one academic year of study, leading to a 2- or 4-year degree in Environmental Studies, Forestry, Marine or Wildlife Biology, or related fields.  Selection will be based on quality of application responses, academic history, letters of recommendation, and evidence of interest in their chosen field through related projects and activities.

  • Submit a written essay of 500 words or less stating their reasons for choosing this field of study, career goals, and participation in any projects or activities relating to the field of interest.
