Stronger Together: Kitsap Audubon Connects with Regional Partners
At the Kitsap Audubon Society, we believe that bird conservation doesn't stop at the county line. That’s why we recently sat down with leaders from the Olympic Peninsula Audubon Society, Rainshadow Bird Alliance, and Audubon Washington staff to synchronize our efforts and tackle the challenges facing our feathered neighbors.
A Unified Vision for the Sound
The meeting provided a fantastic opportunity to meet Amanda Kaplan, the new Vice President of Audubon Washington. Alongside Trina, Anna, and Teri, Amanda is championing a culture of listening—ensuring the state office is deeply connected to the needs of local chapters.
Amanda Kaplan speaking to the regional chapters
One of the most exciting projects discussed was the upcoming "Salish Sea State of the Birds Report." This report will move us beyond looking at just our "slice of the woods." By analyzing the health of the entire Puget Sound, it will provide a roadmap for where we can focus our efforts to make the most significant regional impact.
Celebrating Our Wins
Each chapter took a moment to share their accomplishments, challenges, and innovations. At Kitsap Audubon, we were proud to highlight how we are evolving to meet a modern audience:
Digital Transformation: Our refreshed website and active blog are making it easier than ever for members to stay informed.
Inclusive Birding: We’ve seen incredible growth through our "Let’s Go Birding Together" outings, family-friendly events, and accessible-to-all field trips.
Community Building: Who says conservation can’t be social? Our trivia and board game nights are bringing bird lovers together in a relaxed environment.
We Need Your Help to Fly Higher
While we are thrilled with these gains, we know there is more work to be done. The challenges facing our local ecosystems are significant, and we are looking to expand our flock.
We know you’re out there. If you have a passion for the environment, a knack for organization, or simply a desire to help your local community, we want to meet you. We are committed to finding better ways to connect with those who want to join our mission.
