From Recordings to Restoration: Using Bird Vocalizations to Guide Forest Management

One of the goals of Great Peninsula Conservancy’s (GPC) stewardship program is to improve the ecological integrity and health of GPC’s forestlands by increasing forest structure and species diversity. Implementing practices to improve forest health seems appropriate given the dramatic decline in populations of many North American landbirds. GPC Stewardship Director, Adrian Wolf, will present a program to improve the long-term survival of Western Washington forest birds by implementing state-of-the art habitat improvement practices, initiating acoustic monitoring of bird responses to these conservation practices, and publicly sharing findings and replicable protocols through outreach and communications. The Listen Up program is a collaboration of three land trusts and four conservation and tribal organizations, and is supported by Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Land Trust Bird Conservation Initiative. Adrian and the Listen Up program were recently featured in the New York Times’ “50 States and 50 Fixes” series and NPR’s “All Things Considered.”

Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the program begins at 6:30 p.m. We are thrilled to offer both in-person and virtual attendance options.
