Kitsap Audubon is excited to highlight an upcoming citizen science opportunity with the Coastal Observation and Seabird Survey Team (COASST), a project based out of the University of Washington’s School of Aquatic & Fishery Sciences.
COASST is looking for dedicated beachwalkers to attend a Beached Bird Training Session in Bremerton. Participants collect monthly data on beached carcasses of marine birds to establish patterns of bird mortality across North Pacific beaches, helping address key marine conservation issues. No prior scientific experience is needed!

Date & Time: Saturday, September 26, 2026 | 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Norm Dicks Government Center, Room 406 (345 6th St., Bremerton, WA 98337)
Cost: Training is free; a $50 materials fee is requested to take a survey kit home (scholarships available).
Survey Partnering: Beach surveys are best conducted in groups of 2 or more, so bringing a survey partner is recommended (though not required).
